Auntie Joyce is checking in!

May 9, 2025by Jocelyn Hall3

You may have noticed my silence these past months. I didn’t disappear—I’ve just been walking a sacred path that many know all too well.

I’ve been caring for both of my elderly parents.

Yes, I’m blessed to still have them in my life, and what a joy that is! But joy and responsibility often walk hand in hand. My brother and I have taken on the role of full-time caregivers and let me tell you—it has reshaped everything.

There are days when I feel strong and grounded in love. And there are other days when the weight of watching those who once cared for me now need my care is heavier than words can say.

But here’s the spiritual truth:
We don’t always understand the why.
Why this season now? Why so hard? Why me?

But we trust God. We trust that there is purpose in this pause. Strength in the stretch. And beauty, even in the burden. God’s plan for us isn’t always clear, but His love always is.

To every caretaker out there—whether it’s your child, your spouse, your parent, or someone you love deeply—I see you. I feel you. And I stand with you.

You’re not alone.
You’re not invisible.
You are doing holy work.

Keep going.
Even on the days you feel undone—remember, grace meets us there too.

With Love,

Auntie Joyce

This sounds like a published dialogue on the way…We who dwell in the Brush Arbors of life will be listening for a few Words from Auntie Joyce!

Beautifully written. I’m my mom’s caregiver, going on 15 months. It is like a roller coaster, some highs and some lows but always blessed that we still have her. She will be 97 in October. But even if God takes her home before than, she and we (my brothers and sisters) have been blessed to have her this long.

I’ll keep you and your family in my prayers.
