We all know how to show up for others.
But do we remember to show up for ourselves?
As a caregiver, a sister, a daughter, and a friend, my schedule is full. But I’ve learned something life-changing: you can’t pour from an empty vessel. That’s why I’ve made it a discipline—yes, a discipline—to take time for myself.
I’ve packed a suitcase and left my worries behind for a few days.
Italy, Greece, the Bahamas, a Delta Sigma Theta Anniversary cruise, Tennessee with my Sorors—these moments have restored my soul. Not because they were far away, but because they reminded me I matter too.
And when I’m not traveling?
I steal little moments.
A walk in sunlight.
A chapter of a good book.
A deep breath.
A silent prayer.
Even if I’m not sleepy—I close my eyes and rest.
Always football, especially the Eagles. GO BIRDS!!
Always coffee.
Friend, take time to care.
Yes, care for your loved ones.
But please—also care for YOU.
Schedule the quiet. Plan your joy.
And trust me, the world will still spin while you take a moment to breathe.
Because I care,
Auntie Joyce
