Run Your Unique Stride

March 18, 2024by Jocelyn Hall0

I’m not a runner: tried it back in high school and failed miserably on two main conditions – quickness and distance. I was definitely too slow to be a sprinter or hurdler, even though I had long legs and a posed gait. Then, when it came to long distance, I was still slow, well beyond the allowable time limits for crossing the finish line. Despite my wishes, neither of these attributes were present to make me successful on the track.  That’s why I picked field events – javelin & discus. The distance in throwing was on strength and technique. I was more attuned to achieving success by focusing more on the elements of the throw and I was happier when I did my personal best.

In a world where everything seems to move at Shelley Ann Frasier speed, the idea of running at your own pace seems daunting. Whether going beyond the physical act of sprinting through city streets or leisurely on scenic trails, as metaphorically as it sounds, the progress is personal. Success isn’t always about how quick we reach the finish line – it’s about cadence, patience, and stride.

We all have a uniqueness in our gait and rhythm in life according to the path we have chosen. The concept of running at your pace encourages the celebration of individual progress and embracing the fulfillment of the experience. The freedom and self-discovery while being challenged to overcome obstacles it’s on everyone’s track. However, you decide how fast or slow the cadence will be, the length in your stride and the patience it will take to attain your goals. Many will pass you and some will fall behind…That’s life!

Doesn’t matter the coaches, cheerleaders or spectators – you have to finish what you’ve started.

Running at your pace is more than a philosophy – it’s the mindset that encourages authenticity, resilience and a consistent approach to life. Whether you’re actually running or metaphorically pursuing a personal endeavor, remember that the cadence and stride is yours to define.

Celebrate your progress. No achievement is too small. Recognize the impact of the end goal. Don’t allow setbacks to be permanent – reset and start. Give yourself grace in the journey and savor each moment while running at your own stride.
